The help ladder
Help that does not steal the thinking.
When you do not know how to answer a question, Scatter Maths does not immediately dump the solution on screen. It reveals the method one useful step at a time.
Four levels of help
- Concept: identify the mathematical idea or rule
- Set-up: place the information into the right mathematical form
- Calculator or mental steps: carry out the calculation
- Worked answer: compare your method with a complete solution
Why progressive help matters
A student may only need the name of the rule, or help converting a percentage to a decimal. Stopping after that hint leaves the useful part—the reasoning and answer—with the student.
What happens in an exam
Scatter Maths can show calculator steps, but it does not replace the student's calculator. Students should still write the mathematical set-up where working marks may be available.
